John Knox Village Holds Ride to Remember Rally

John Knox Village is putting some horsepower behind raising funds to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. John Knox Village, a continuing care retirement community in Lee’s Summit, Mo., is holding a Ride to Remember Rally on Saturday, Oct. 5. Whether you ride Harley, a Honda or a Suzuki, all are invited to participate in the Ride to Remember Rally with proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association. The ride will include short and long distances through the Missouri countryside. There will be several stops, including one in Harrisonville. Riders will receive a commemorative patch and enjoy coffee and donuts before the ride and lunch will be provided after they’ve completed the ride. The event is the result of brainstorming sessions by a Village associate committee that is focused on community outreach. Committee member Kim McClure has worked at the Village for 29 years and said during that time he’s developed close relationships with residents and has seen the affect Alzheimer’s disease has had on many of them. “As a rider myself, in general, we really like to give back to the community,” McClure said. “Because of the bonds we’ve built with residents and have seen how the disease affects them and their families, we thought this would be a wonderful organization to support and give back to.” The Ride to Remember Rally is part of the Village’s effort to raise funds as a team participates in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s event sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association. Alzheimer’s disease affects 5 million Americans and is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s event will be on Oct. 6 at Corporate Woods in Overland Park, Kan.
