Hillcrest to raise money with annual gala
Silent auction to feature custom items created by Jennifer Bertrand of HGTV's Design Star fame
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jennifer Bertrand, Kansas City's own HGTV's Design Star, will create repurposed furniture and other home items for Hillcrest's Northland Gala & Auction, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 at Sheraton Crown Center Hotel. Bertrand's items will be only some of the featured auction pieces in the Hillcrest Auction raising money for one of the largest fundraisers of the year for the longtime transitional housing program in Clay and Platte Counties.
Tickets for the gala, dinner and auction are $75. For sponsorship information or to purchase tickets, please contact Hillcrest’s Laurie Sutton at 816-838-7446 or Donice Yeater at 816-838-7442.
Hillcrest Transitional Housing offers homeless families a disciplined educational program within a caring environment. Unlike many organizations whose focus is immediate or emergency care, Hillcrest’s objective is to move families from homelessness to self-sufficiency within 90 days by addressing the total life situation of the homeless families they serve.
In exchange for rent-free/utility-free housing, residents are required by written agreement to work full time, obey program guidelines and attend volunteer-taught classes in life skills, employment, community living and budgeting.
Hillcrest’s accomplishments are best seen through its 95 percent success rate of transitioning graduate families to self sufficiency. Hillcrest also has been recognized for “best practices” in transitional housing with the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
Hillcrest is a non-profit 501c3 with five affiliate locations in the greater Kansas City Metro area – Platte, Clay, Buchanan, Eastern Jackson Counties and Kansas – supported by the local community and community service volunteers.
