Surprenant Selected to Lead Park University’s Career Development Center

Tess Surprenant has been appointed as director of the Career Development Center at Park University. Surprenant began her duties at Park on July 8.

As director of Park’s CDC, Surprenant leads a team that creatively provides comprehensive career and graduate school services and resources to effectively maximize career opportunities for Park students and alumni, employers and the global University community.

“Her significant corporate outreach experience will be critical as we attempt to greatly expand job opportunities and internships across the region and nation for our students and graduates,” said Erik Bergrud, associate vice president of constituent engagement.

Prior to coming to Park, Surprenant was a talent development consultant for one year, working with such organizations as the University of Minnesota Hospitals’ Emerging Physician Leaders Program and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Sports Internship Leadership Development Program. Previously, Surprenant spent nine years at the University of Minnesota, the last two years serving as the Gemini Chair and Senior Fellow in the Technological Leadership Institute within UM’s College of Science and Engineering, working in recruitment and partner marketing, new program development and innovation management research, coaching and management. In addition, she served seven years as the associate director of marketing and business development within the Undergraduate Business Career Center in UM’s Carlson School of Management, handling external relationship development, student programming, career advising, marketing strategy and management.

Additional experience includes serving as a private label product development manager with Coloplast Corp., a global partner marketing manager with HNC Software Inc. (now FICO) and as an account executive with United Airlines.

Surprenant, a resident of Kansas City, Mo., earned a Master of Science in technology management and a Bachelor of Science in technical communications, both from the University of Minnesota.
