Olathe Medical Center 5K & Family Fun Run is Aug. 3 at Heritage Park
Providing a morning of family fun which supports a healthy lifestyle is the goal of the second-annual Olathe Medical Center 5K and Family Fun Run, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3
Now back for its second year, this event was developed by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District and Olathe Medical Center staff. It will take place at Heritage Park, 16050 Pflumm, Olathe.
The Family Fun Run will take place beginning at 8 a.m. This event will be chip-timed and participants have a choice of a five-kilometer (3.1 mile) or two-mile run/walk, both of which will take place simultaneously on the park's paved trails. The event's start and finish lines will both be located in the park's marina parking lot. There's also a free half-mile fun run for kids which will begin at 9 a.m. While the run will be chip-timed, this event will not be scored. Everyone who runs or walks is considered a winner and will receive a finisher's medal.
This event is open to all ages. All participants receive a T-shirt, post-race refreshments, and will be eligible for prize drawings. Post-race family activities are also planned at nearby Shelter #1, including inflatables.
Until Aug. 1, the cost is $16 per person for ages 17 and younger or $18 per person for ages 17 and older. After Aug. 1, this increases to $18 for youth and $20 for adults. For more information about the event, call (913) 826-2955. Participants can also register online at www.sportskc.com. Registration forms can also be found on the district's website at www.jcprd.com/special_events/omcfunrun.cfm.
Packet pickups will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, at the Olathe Medical Center Pavilion, 21120 W. 152nd St., Olathe. Walk-in registrations will also be accepted on the day of the event.
Volunteers are also needed for this event and additional sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Kyle Stegeman at (913) 826-2955.
