Michael Gray, General Manager of Boyce and Bynum Pathology Labs, to Retire. Richard Cotten to Take Over Role When Transition is Complete
COLUMBIA, MO – July 10, 2013 - Boyce and Bynum Pathology Laboratories recently announced that Michael Gray, Boyce and Bynum’s General Manager since 1968, began a half-time retirement track on July 1. By the end of this year, Gray’s executive management responsibilities for the laboratory and physicians’ professional practice will transition to Richard Cotten, BBPL’s newly appointed Chief Operating Officer and General Manager.
“Michael has been instrumental in Boyce and Bynum’s 49-year history of providing state-of-the-art clinical diagnostic laboratory services. In large part due to his leadership, we currently provide diagnostic services throughout Missouri and into several surrounding states” said Dr. Michael D. Curry, Boyce and Bynum’s Medical Director. “We are very appreciative of Michael’s years of service and recognize the significance of his contributions, principal to Boyce and Bynum’s success. He can be very proud of his life’s work and legacy to this company.”
As BBPL’s new Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, Cotten will be a key architect in evaluating operations, overseeing financial planning and implementing new business development strategies.
Cotten, a Texas native and Texas A&M University alum, brings 26 years of executive laboratory management experience to Boyce and Bynum. Most recently, Cotten served as VP of Strategic Development for Lab Corp and General Manager of National Reference Laboratory – Lab Corp’s international venture with Mubadala Development Company – to develop a reference laboratory network across the United Arab Emirates. Prior to his international assignment, Cotten was VP Operations with responsibilities for Lab Corp’s Kansas City regional operations. During his career, Cotten has held a number of senior level finance roles for both Lab Corp and Quest Diagnostics. “Richard brings a proven track record for achieving results and team building,” said Dr. Curry. “His knowledge of laboratory operations, financial management, and development and expansion of regional service areas for national laboratories make him a perfect fit for us. We feel fortunate to add Richard’s skill set and experience to our organizational leadership.”
Boyce and Bynum Pathology Laboratories, a fully accredited medical reference laboratory, provides services in chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, cytology and anatomic pathology.
