50 plus craft class drawing on Pinterest offered at RPCC on July 24

The social website Pinterest is the inspiration behind the latest offerings in a series of crafts classes being offered by the 50 Plus Department of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

Pinterest Projects is the name of the program. Pinterest has set the online world abuzz by allowing users to "pin" crafts, home decor, and other interests on an online bulletin board. In the local class, participants will take some of those ideas and make them their own. The next class in the series is Fabric Wreaths, offered in late July and again in mid-August.

To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under 50 plus and then under enrichment & special interests. In the printed catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keyword “crafts.”

Fabric Wreaths will take place beginning 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 at the Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood, Roeland Park. The cost for one 90-minute session is $9 for Johnson County Residents or $10 for nonresidents. For a supply list, call (913) 826-3160. This program will be offered again beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Mill Creek Activity Center, 6518 Vista Dr., Shawnee.

The final Pinterest Project program of the summer season will be Salt Dough Jewelry on Aug. 28, also at RPCC.

While the JCPRD 50 Plus programs are primarily for people who are age 50 or older, interested parties who have not yet reached that magic age may still be able to attend. Persons 18 and older who are interested in a 50 Plus class are invited to call the district's Registration Department at (913) 831-3359, and if space is available without forfeiting the place of a person over 50, their registration can be taken.

The JCPRD Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the district's website at www.jcprd.com.
