The Art of Women

William Peck at 816-521-8503 / wpeck@uptownartsbar.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 13, 2013

Friday, June 7, 2013, from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., Potluck Productions and artist Ruthie Becker come together at the Uptown Arts Bar to bring you the best of performance and visual art. Glendora Davis (actress, puppeteer, and playwright), and Joyce Slater (story teller, artist, and actress), founders of Potluck Productions, are joined onstage by local artists and actors to present the works of emerging female playwrights in live performance. Ruthie Becker presents Art of Life, an exhilarating exhibition in acrylic, oil, clay, and mixed media. Ruthie will be available for discussion before and after the Potluck Productions performance.

The first Potluck Production premiered at the Theatre for Young America and was invited for encore presentation at both Johnson County Community College and Penn Valley Community College. Since then, Potluck Productions has produced eleven festivals consisting of over one hundred short plays and monologues, and has worked with local and regional directors including Richard Alan Nichols, Jeff Davolt, M. Kate Sinnet, Barbara Houston Schaeffer, and Philip John Kinen. Born in Bolivia, later living in Iran and Italy, Ruthie Becker’s mixed media approach reflects the diverse nature of her background - oils, acrylics, clay, charcoal, pen, and ink are no stranger to her hand. She also studied glass blowing and welding, and loves to dabble in poetry, guitar, and songwriting. A true Renaissance woman, Ruthie received a B.A. in Art, a B.S. in Political Science and Education from Oxford, and an M.A. in Education.
