Weekly Children’s Activities Returns to Park Place with Additional Option of Supervised Play

Inexpensive Outlets for Creativity, Energy and Fun Offered in Barkley Square at Park Place by Bambini Creativi, Rosehill Gardens and The Learning Tree; Optional Supervised Playtime New in 2013

LEAWOOD, Kan. (May 16, 2013) – Park Place is bringing back children’s summer activities with a few additional highlights in 2013. Returning this summer, Rosehill Gardens provides Children’s Gardening Classes followed up by story time with The Learning Tree. An additional two days of activities have been scheduled this year as Bambini Creativi extends their Summer Camp Experience to Park Place. The Bambini Creativi classes provide complete supervision, allowing parents to have some quiet time on their own for shopping at the many boutiques and specialty stores, a coffee break at Parisi Café or a work out at Bar Method.

Rosehill Gardens will offer one class on Wednesday while Bambini Creativi will offer two classes designed specifically for different age groups on both Tuesday and Thursday. Parents are strongly encouraged to pre-register to ensure enrollment. Weekly activities will take place June 4 – August 8, excluding the holiday week of July 4. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Bambini Creativi will provide fun, education and fully supervised experiences from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. for 3-5 year olds and 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. for 6-10 year olds. Every Wednesday, Rosehill Gardens will offer a parent/child creative gardening activity 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. followed up with free story time provided by The Learning Tree from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. for all ages.

What: Bambini Creativi Summer Play Experience at Park Place guarantees children will use their minds to imagine, their bodies to move and play, and their hands to create. Our goal is to design a summer experience that allows children the freedom to explore innovative ideas, discover new talents, build confidence, and develop new friendships! Join us for an unforgettable summer of fun!

The Reggio Inspired preschool and kindergarten located in south Kansas City, is offering classes with 60 minutes of interrupted play, story time, music, movement and outdoor exploration. Kids will be challenged to think outside the box as they use critical and creative thinking to solve problems and discover possibilities. Weekly themes will be focused on such themes as nature, dramatic play, food, water, clay and science. Bambini Creativi is providing supervised classes so parents are able to utilize this for shopping, dining, or a Bar Method Class. Each class is open to the public and is ideal for children three to ten years old.

When: Every Tuesday and Thursday morning June 4 through August 8 Piccolo Explorers (3-5 year olds) 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Grande Explorers (6-10 year olds) 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Bambini Creativi Summer Play Experience at Park Place-Barkley Square

June 4-6: The Wonder of Science Experience Campers will use their favorite tools to explore the world of science. The children will move freely between experiments, dissections, and more!

June 11-13: The Wonder of Clay Children will experience how a piece of earth can be molded into creative pieces of work. We will be making clay characters that come to life during a stop-motion animation short-film.

June 18-20: The Wonder of Water Be prepared to get super soaking wet in this week's Summer Experience Camp! Children will cool off and have fun splishing, splashing and spraying in water!

June 25-27: The Wonder of Dramatic Play Be ready for an interactive dramatic adventure inspired by the boundless possibilities of our creative imagination! Children will create a "world of their own." Use costumes, create funny languages, and develop a set of whimsical props!

July 9-11: The Wonder of Food Roll up your sleeves Young Chefs, and let's get ready to make sensory play-dough, sculpt serpentine snakes and discover sensational foods! Experience Campers will work hands-on to discover the wonder of food!

July 16-18: The Wonder of Nature Young Explorers are invited to discover the world around as we journey into nature! Experience Campers will garden, make maps, observe the outdoors and discover nature's wonders.

July 23-25: The Wonder of Creativity Get ready to be playful, hands-on and creative! Experience Campers will work with open-ended materials to create a world of sound and colors. July 30-Aug 1: The Wonder of Imagination In this Play Experience children can delight in their wildest imagination while transforming themselves into magical creatures, designing the next greatest invention, or creating a story book of faraway places and lands. Aug 6-8: The Wonder of Food Roll up your sleeves Young Chefs, and let's get ready to make sensory play-dough, sculpt serpentine snakes and discover sensational foods! Experience Campers will work hands-on to discover the wonder of food!

Rosehill Children’s Gardening Classes

What: Kids’ outdoor fun extends into the week at Park Place with the return of its Rosehill Children’s Gardening Classes, every Wednesday morning in Barkley Square. The 30-minute classes will allow children to engage in fun and creative gardening activities. Each class is open to the public and is ideal for children age’s three to ten.

When: Every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m., June 5 through August 7

Where: Park Place’s Barkley Square

Rosehill Gardening Children’s Classes Featured Weekly Themes

June 5: Plants We Can Eat! Herb Garden Some plants can be added to food to make it yummy! During this class, children will plant 2 herbs and then snip some to put in lemonade and pasta salad.

June 12: Bulbs and Seeds, Discover the Magic! What’s inside a bulb? What’s inside a seed? What’s the difference? This class will explore and explain bulbs and seeds followed by some hands on planting.

June 19: Adopting Animals – Chia Pets Have fun decorating a small sock to look like the face of an animal, real or imaginary. After children plant grass seed in the top for hair, we will add whiskers, eyes and hair. Give your new pet a name, take it home, and watch it grow!

June 26: Proper Planting – Patriotic Plants! In preparation for the Fourth of July, children will choose to plant a red, white or blue flower.

July 10: Tools in the Garden Learn to use tools in the garden that are “kid’s size”. Children will learn what each tool is used for and just how to wield them to get the right result.

July 17: Soil and Worms – Dirt Cake! A combination of education about dirt and worms with some light cooking!

July 24: Birdfeeders! Children will make birdfeeders to take home for our little feathered friends and fill them with their favorite snacks.

July 31: Mini Desertscapes! Plants that live in the desert are different from those in the garden. During this class, children will plant small succulents and learn about how these plants hold water when there is no rain.

August 7: Birds in the Garden – Bird Baths! During this class, children will mix dirt and cement to make a birdbath for the backyard!
