Humanitarian group launces drive for Syria

Kansas City, Mo. (May 20, 2013)—As escalating violence inside Syria continues to plunge more and more people into further poverty, Syria Relief and Development (SRD)—an Overland Park, Kan.-based nonprofit, humanitarian organization working inside Syria and neighboring Jordan to ease the suffering of Syrians in need—has launched a local donation drive to collect aid items to be shipped to families in need inside Syria.

The items in urgent need include: baby formula and diapers, adult urinary and incontinence pads/briefs, feminine sanitary pads, new men’s, women’s and children’s shoes and tuna/sardine cans. Anyone wishing to donate any of these items may drop the items off or have them shipped to the following location:

Islamic Society of Greater Kansas City 8501 E 99th St. Kansas City, MO 64134

The donation drive began on May 10th, will continue on into June and comes at a time when reports of increasing violence inside Syria are bringing the country’s humanitarian crisis to an all-time high. The United Nations has continued to stress a widening gap between the needs inside Syria and the available resources. SRD hopes to help meet the needs of Syrians through the drive.

The drive will also be launched in other cities across the U.S.

Syria Relief and Development was founded in November 2011 in response to the humanitarian crisis inside Syria. Since then, SRD has worked to provide food and medical aid to Syrian families in need. SRD continues to work inside Syria and in neighboring Jordan to help meet the needs of the Syrian people.
