Dog obedience class offered for adults beginning June 11
Participating dogs, as well as pet owners, and everyone in the community will benefit from a dog obedience program being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.
The class is called C.L.A.S.S., which stands for Canine Life And Social Skills and is for ages 16 and older as well as younger children when accompanied by an adult. This program promotes training focused on positive reinforcement and is meant to help strengthen relationships between humans and their canine companions. The program was developed by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and conducted by an APDT Professional Member and certified instructor to demonstrate to pet owners real-life skills such as waiting at the door, drop it, settle, and more. Treats are allowed as rewards after the completion of an exercise. To find this program in the JCPRD’s Activities catalog and online listings, browse first under adult and then under hobbies & special interests. In the catalog and when using the website’s advanced search, look for the keywords "dog obedience.”
This program will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday beginning June 11. The cost for eight 60-minute lessons is $59 for Johnson County residents or $65 for nonresidents. No pets allowed at the first class.
The JCPRD Activities catalog, with information and a registration form, is available for pickup at all Johnson County Library branches. For more information or to register, call (913) 831-3359. To register online and for updated program listings, visit the district's website at www.jcprd.com.
