Kansas City Music Prep School Student Qualifies as Semi-Finalist for International Competition

Overland Park, Ks. — Chung Man Kim, a student of the Kansas City Music Preparatory School in Overland Park, Ks., has qualified as a semi-finalist for The Korea International Competition for Young Pianists to be held August 18-24, 2013 in Seoul. Kim is one of only thirty-nine semi-finalists from seven different countries who qualified for this highly competitive and prestigious international piano competition which was established by the Korea National University of Arts Foundation.

Chung Man came to the United States five years ago after attending the Yewon Art School in Seoul and is a student of Wha-In Lee, professor and executive director of the Kansas City Music Prep School. He is finishing his sophomore year in high school at Overland Christian Schools located in Overland Park, Ks.

This is not the first competition for this talented young musician. He placed second in the USASU Shimmel International Piano Competition’s Russian composition category in 2009. In 2011 at the age of 15, he won first place in the Kansas City Symphony Young Artist Competition which gave him the opportunity to perform with the Symphony in May of 2011. He’s also taken the top prize at the Kansas Music Teachers National Association competition. In addition to competitions, Chung Man has played in numerous recitals at Missouri Western State University and Pusan National University, Pusan, South Korea. He and other piano students of the Preparatory School will perform with the Busan Philharmonic Orchestra on May 24, 2013.

The Kansas City Music Preparatory School (KCMPS) is a program operated by the Kansas City College and Bible School, 7401 Metcalf in Overland Park, Ks. and offers music certificate and degree programs.
