Firehouse Gallery at Central Exchange Announces Grand Opening

Kansas City, MO – Central Exchange announces the launch of The Firehouse Gallery, a new art gallery that will feature topical exhibitions and works by local artists. Housed in the Central Exchange’s meeting space and headquarters at 1020 Central, The Firehouse Gallery will bring a new public arts venue to the heart of Downtown Kansas City in America’s Creative Crossroads.

The gallery’s inaugural exhibition features mixed media work by Kansas City artist and business executive Becky Blades. Blades employ vintage documents and textiles in lyrical images that start stories and create conversations. Her monoprint series “Once White,” on vintage men’s shirt collars explores the view of the white collar worker, while her series House & Home comments playfully on the role of home, possessions and neighbors.

The Central Exchange Firehouse Gallery will host a grand opening reception from 5 PM to 8 PM on Friday, May 10, 2013. Blades will give remarks at 6 PM. Wine and light hor’s d’oeuvres will be provided. RSVP at

CiCi Rojas, President & CEO of Central Exchange, says, “Central Exchange is committed to supporting our vital arts community, America’s Creative Crossroads, by partnering with arts organizations and showcasing talent from throughout the region. The arts are a powerful economic engine, driving job creation, tourism, tax revenues, and a creative culture that makes Kansas City thrive.”

In conjunction with the Arts Council, Central Exchange has for five years hosted a monthly arts forum, formerly called Arts & Issues and now titled America’s Creative Crossroads.

Central Exchange provides the venue and voice for women seeking to reach their full personal and professional potential. Visit for more information.
