(Prairie Village, Kan.)…Having a weather radio can save your life during severe weather…especially if the power goes out or you can’t hear the outdoor sirens going off. That’s why Price Chopper has partnered with the Metropolitan Emergency Managers Committee (MEMS) on Project Community Alert – a community-wide effort to get weather radios in the homes and businesses of Greater Kansas City.
As part of Project Community Alert, Price Chopper sells Midland NOAA All-Hazards Alert Radios at a discounted price and makes them available in all 49 stores. These weather alert radios broadcast important information from the National Weather Service. They can be programmed to sound alerts for specific counties, and have a battery backup in case of a power loss.
“As we approach the anniversary of the deadly tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri in 2011, it’s an ideal time to remember how important it is to be prepared for severe weather,” says Casie Broker, director of marketing, Price Chopper. “Since 2002, we’ve been happy to provide our customers this life-saving tool at a reduced price.”
Another Project Community Alert partner is Fox 4. The television station’s meteorologists will promote the weather radios on air as part of their effort to inform Kansas City about severe weather preparedness. Plus, the station is giving away four free Midland radios on its web site.
