10-Year-Old & Grandfather a Hit at Olathe Retirement Community
It may be hard to imagine a 10-year-old at a retirement community regularly taking part in everything from gardening to games and a variety of activities. But Ed Hall, a resident at Santa Marta in Olathe, has a pretty special relationship with his granddaughter, Michelle.
Every morning, Ed gets up early and goes to Michelle’s house to make her breakfast, takes the 4th grader to school and then picks her up at the end of the day. Michelle often spends evenings after school at Santa Marta and stays the night there once or twice a week. She loves it, is quite the ‘busy bee’ and knows practically everyone at the retirement community. You should see her walking around and the activities she and residents are involved in – it’s quite the spectacle. Ed even says she recently asked him, “Papa, why can’t I move in over here?”
Michelle has very loving parents, but both are nurses with shifting schedules. Ed says he’s more than happy to help out his daughter and son-in-law with their youngest child. It seems like many are seeing a growing role of grandparents in the lives of dual working parents.
Ed and Michelle are sweet as can be, and it’s quite visual with all the activities they’re involved in. Would you be interested in a story? I’d be happy to put you in touch with Ed and Michelle or line up a visit to Santa Marta. We’re at 116th and Pflumm. You can email or call me at 913-754-2318. I included a picture of them.
