Starlight Theatre gets a dining makeover with Plaza Catering
“Dinner and a show” is getting a makeover at Starlight Theatre this summer. A Famous Plaza salad with strawberries and caramelized walnuts will soon share the stage with the likes of chocolate soufflé with a Bourbon cream. Starlight, the oldest performing arts organization in Kansas City, is teaming up with Plaza Catering to provide a broader range of fine dining and Bistro fare options that are healthy and affordable.
“Starlight strives to ensure that the same high quality we bring to the stage in the form of Broadway productions is found throughout the venue and that includes dining. Our patrons enjoy great food and are increasingly more health conscious,” said Denton Yockey, president and executive producer. “Plaza Catering is bringing Starlight some fresh dining options at an affordable cost tailored to Kansas Citians’ summer palates.”
Plaza Catering has customized dinner menus for each of Starlight’s six Broadway shows that include hot buffet items, extensive salad selections, a veggie garden bar, upscale desserts and separate children’s menus. The full-service dinner and bar will be available in Starlight’s Club that has indoor and outdoor seating. Plaza Catering will also provide self-serve Bistro Fare items such as pre-made salads, delicious sandwiches, veggie snack trays and hummus. Starlight will continue to provide concession stand favorites and pre-packaged salads and sandwiches on the Encore Deck provided by ARAMARK.
Plaza Catering, an offshoot of Cinzetti’s Italian Restaurant in Overland Park, was launched in Kansas City three years ago and is now in Denver, Chicago, and Scottsdale and has a national contract with Natural Grocers.
“We’re a full-service caterer that cooks for freshness,” said Rolfe Loomis, general manager of Plaza Catering and Cinzetti’s. “A lot of our produce is locally sourced; some is organic. In fact, all of the salads we will be serving at Starlight will be organic, and all of our recipes are made from scratch.”
In addition, Plaza Catering roasts most of its own meats (including chicken) that are all natural and organic – no hormones or antibiotics. “The foods we serve are basically the healthiest, freshest options we have in the health food industry,” Loomis said. “The Starlight experience is more than just seeing a show under the stars. It’s coming early to enjoy a nice dinner or light snack, watching the pre-show entertainment amongst our fountains and gardens, shopping in the Ovation store and taking a free tour of the venue,” Yockey said. “We’re making the experience even better this year by adding Plaza Catering as our new dining partner. I’ve had their food and it’s great. I can’t wait.”
