Announcement of new Community Resource
Library Collection will focus on Spiritual Diversity
In celebration of the rich history and diversity of Greater Kansas City and the primary importance of that diversity in the development of our community, Cultural Crossroads, Inc. announces a major campaign to establish a dedicated Spiritual Diversity Collection to be composed of multi-faith and multicultural materials, available to the public. The collection will enhance understanding and mutual respect of the diverse faiths, traditions, and cultures within our greater community and provide a central repository of interfaith materials available to educators.
Fueled by an initial funding through a challenge grant from the Shumaker Family Foundation (www.shumakerfamilyfoundation.org), the public is invited to make donations to meet that challenge. A challenge grant allows the project to proceed as a truly community-based effort. Donations should be made to Cultural Crossroads, Inc., a 501c3 tax-exempt organization, marked as intended for the Spiritual Diversity Collection.
About the importance of the Spiritual Diversity Collection, Mary Gibson McCoy, President of Cultural Crossroads, says:
Perhaps the most basic cultural commonality is also the most definitive of “human-ness” – reason and philosophy, the ability to dream, to consider, and to seek ultimate answers to the basic questions of life…those questions which define humanity.
The Spiritual Diversity Collection will be housed in a publicly-accessible, centralized location and will be designed to include a variety of source materials to meet the needs of the public, students and educators. The collection, far from being a stagnant repository of research materials, will be continually updated to include contemporary and inclusive publications as the elements of Spiritual Diversity continue to evolve as an important aspect of our community.
