First Annual Bobcat Family Fun Run 5K April 6th

(Lawrence, KS) March 27th, 2013 – The Langston Hughes Elementary Wellness Committee and Bobcat Marathon Club announce their first Annual 5K Bobcat Family Fun Run! The event will be Saturday April 6th at 10:00 AM. The start will be at the Clinton Lake Softball Complex and travel along the Rotary Arboretum path. The cost for individuals is $15, and families are $25. Dogs and strollers are welcome. Group warm up at 9:40 AM with music, and the group start will be 10:00 AM.

This event will encourage fun outdoor activity, school spirit and support for wellness! To promote that spirit, the event will not be timed. Along with wellness benefits, the proceeds from the event will benefit the Langston Hughes Bobcat Marathon Club and the Langston Hughes PTO with the intention to help classroom teachers with supplies for special projects and educational support. To keep with school spirit, it will also feature the DJ skills of Langston’s own Erik Haden – Push Play Entertainment.

Additional features of the Fun Run include a water station, refreshments, dog tags for finishers, gift bags for first 100 registrants, and a raffle prize giveaway. Several Langston Hughes teachers will be along the course in addition to members of the KU Spirit Squad.

“Through the Bobcat Marathon Club, we want to promote a positive cycle of wellness and connection to our community, while empowering kids with a sense of personal accomplishment, and this event ties that together with the opportunity for anyone to run or walk a 5K. It offers a chance to come together as a community and get outside to exercise with our families while raising money to support marathon club and education in our school.” shared Carrie Mandigo, Race Director and Bobcat Marathon Club Committee Member.
