Invitation to Brain Injury Awareness Day

Jefferson City (March 2013) - On Wednesday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m., the Brain Injury Association of Missouri, and other advocates from across the State of Missouri will be at the Capitol in Jefferson City, Missouri, to take part in the Annual Brain Injury Awareness Day. Survivors, family members, supporters, and staff members will head to the Capitol to tell their stories and remind legislators about issues affecting the growing brain injury population in Missouri.

Last year, we had more than 75 people attended this event from across the state including the areas of Columbia, Jefferson City, Joplin, Kansas City, St. Louis, Sedalia, and Springfield. We are meeting at the Capitol in House Hearing Room 2 at 10:00 a.m. to gather our group and will then begin meeting with the legislators.

The Brain Injury Association of Missouri would like to extend an invitation for you to attend this event and hear personal stories from brain injury survivors and learn more about the importance of legislative issues associated with brain injuries. Each year, in the State of Missouri, hospitals report over 14,000 persons seeking treatment as a result of a brain injury, which still does not include those who do not seek treatment for mild brain injuries, more commonly referred to as concussions. It is estimated that more than 118,000 Missourians are living with a disability due to a head injury and while medical technology has increased the survival rates of those experiencing an injury to the brain, the funding for helping people regain employment and independence has not followed suit.

The Brain Injury Association of Missouri is a community-based organization that serves persons and family members throughout the State of Missouri. For more information visit the Brain Injury Association website at
