Park University Hosting "Pirates for Patriots" 5K Run/Walk

Park University and the Park Exercise Science Organization will hold the first “Pirates for Patriots” 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 6, starting at 9 a.m. at English Landing Park in Parkville.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Park Warrior Center, a division of the University’s Department of Military and Veteran Student Services. The funds will be used by Park University military and veteran students across the country for tuition assistance, to purchase/rent books, or pay for medical bills or counseling.

“Park University stresses the need for community service and is a big supporter of military education,” said Christina Beltz, a senior majoring in fitness and wellness, and president of the PESO. “We (members of the PESO) thought it was important to give back to our community by having a benefit that promoted community service, physical activity and an appreciation for our military.”

The flat 5K course winds alongside the Missouri River, using the inner and outer loops of English Landing Park. The cost to enter the run/walk is $25 through Sunday, March 31; $30 between Monday, April 1, and Thursday, April 4. The cost for Park University students is $10. Entrants registering before/on March 31 will receive a race T-shirt. To register, visit www.enter2run.com/Search/event.aspx?id=19482.

Packet pick-up for the race will be on Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Intramural Field House and Fitness Center on the University’s Parkville Campus. Race entrants are asked to use the University’s 6th Street entrance to access the IFHFC.
