Kansas native releases meteorite thriller novel
It's almost like David Piper saw into our recent events and wrote a book about it. This book is surprising and smart, a fascinating story that weaves together theology, science, geography, history, and, yes, barbecue! The characters are richly developed and quirky. The landscapes of the far-flung regions in the book - Texas, Kansas, and Romania - are rich with not just "place names" but real substance: bird song, warm breezes, limestone canyons, and cool shade from live oak trees. But it is the story that is most compelling, a tightly-written thriller that keeps the reader glued until the surprising conclusion. And the thread of science that weaves through it - implausible, or maybe not? I'm reminded of another author I really enjoy who combines fiction and science in such smart and compelling ways, Mary Doria Russell. She wrote "The Sparrow" and its sequel, "Children of God". I would love it if Mr. Piper would write a next book to follow "God Particle". I am still curious about a few things. And besides, if it happened over the skies of Russia and India, who's to say one won't land in our own back yard....?
