15th Annual Education Expo March 2

For the 15th year, the Midwest Christian Education and College Expo returns to Kansas City with booths and information on local K-12, homeschooling and universities. Organizers say this will be the largest ever, based on the number of schools represented and attendance by the public topped 2,000 in 2012. “Education continues to be at the top of a list of priorities as expressed by American families in recent polling” says expo coordinator Anita Widaman, “This event has proven successful in helping parents determine what is best for their children.” The one-day, free event, runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2 at Colonial Presbyterian Church located at 9500 Wornall Rd. in south Kansas City, MO. Over 80 faith-based colleges, K-12 private schools from both MO and KS, and homeschooling resources will participate. The event has become a huge draw for parents looking at educational options for their younger children as well as juniors and seniors scouting dozens of colleges, universities and missions opportunities from over 15 states. With changes in local school district boundaries, funding cuts to public schools, a continuing clash of values and increased competition for college scholarships, the expo offers answers and options for parents with younger children as well as high school juniors and seniors wondering how they’ll ever afford a four-year degree. In addition to representative from local schools, organizations and colleges, valuable mini-seminars will be offered. The seminars are often standing-room-only and the public is encouraged to arrive at the expo at its 9:30 a.m. opening so they will have time to visit booths and attend the seminars of their choice. For 2013 a record number of seminars are being offered. Each is free and taught by education experts from Kansas City and across the Midwest. Seminars are divided into elementary/secondary and college level. COLLEGE SEMINARS: 10:30 a.m., Making the Grade: How to Dominate Your College Classes; 11:30 a.m. Finding the Most College Financial Aid; 1:00 p.m., The Journey: Preparing for College K-12 SEMINARS: 9:30 a.m., Homeschooling 101 & Missouri Law; 10:30 a.m., History, Mission & Vision of Homeschooling; 11:30 a.m., K-12 Options: Panel Discussion by Parents “Both parents and students love our seminars. It’s a non-threatening way to get answers to vital questions and ask questions directly of experts,” said Widaman who is co-publisher of the Metro Voice Newspaper in Kansas City. “This year we’ve added a special track a parent panel answering questions about private K-12 options and how private Christian schools stack up against their public counter-parts.” The expo is organized by the Metro Voice Newspaper–Kansas City’s faith-based, community newspaper for almost a quarter century with 110,000 readers in Missouri and Kansas.
