Brookside Soccer Club Hires Nick Garcia as Executive Director of Coaching and Player Development

Brookside Soccer Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Nick Garcia as its new executive director of coaching and player development. A veteran Major League Soccer player, Garcia spent time with the Kansas City Wizards, San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC. His primary responsibility with the club will be focused on the management and development of Brookside Soccer Club’s recreational and competitive soccer programs.

Additionally, Garcia will work closely with Kansas City, Mo. government, the Parks and Recreation Department, and local leaders to redevelop the soccer fields at Swope Park.

“I am excited to be a part of the development of Brookside Soccer Club’s future in Kansas City,” said Garcia. “BSC has been a staple in recreational soccer for more than 30 years and I intend to embrace the traditions while evaluating, developing and managing both the recreational and competitive roles of the club. I plan to enhance BSC’s inclusive grassroots soccer mission by reaching out to the many players overlooked within KC’s urban core. “

Recently, Garcia, along with local, county, state and federal leaders helped develop and oversee the creation and completion of the Mattie Rhodes Athletic Complex at 9th & Van Brunt, which is the Park & Rec.’s newest park.

“When we learned of Nick’s interest, we were honored and somewhat flattered that he would apply,” said Kevin Connor, co-chairman of Brookside Soccer Club. “Nick’s passion for promoting quality, affordable youth soccer in urban Kansas City is as strong as Brookside’s. We expect that the several thousand families that we serve will benefit greatly under Nick’s leadership.”

Garcia’s professional career with Major League Soccer began in 2000 when he was drafted second overall by the Kansas City Wizards, now Sporting KC. Nick subsequently played in, and started, nearly 200 games for the Wizards between 2000 and 2007. He helped the Wizards win the MLS Cup in 2000, and the Lamar Hunt Open Cup in 2004. Garcia played for the San Jose Earthquakes as their captain, as well as with Toronto FC, where he finished his 11-year career with more than 300 career games played.

Garcia was a member of the men’s U.S. National Team. While at Indiana University, he was instrumental in leading the Hoosiers to back-to-back NCAA Championships.

Currently, Garcia is the owner and president of G3 Inc., a multi-faceted company that develops, facilitates and leverages both profit and nonprofit ventures through sports. He holds a B National license from United States Soccer Federation and is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Garcia also serves as the director of soccer at the Northeast Sports Alliance (NESA), a partnership of non-profit organizations in the Kansas City urban core.

Garcia is married to Dr. MeLinda Garcia, DDS, and they have two sons.
