Steppingstone Apartments Caught Fire - All are Safe

February 21, 2013 – For Immediate Release - Yesterday, February 20, 2013, at 11 am, a fire broke out in one of the apartment buildings Steppingstone owns, located at 54th Street and Ditzler Avenue. Fortunately, no one was injured, however three apartments were severely damaged.

The three youth that resided in the apartments are all part of the Steppingstone program. All three youth evacuated immediately, and last night we were able to provide them with alternative shelter.

The cause of the fire and extent of damage has yet to be determined, however initial reports indicate that it was an accident.

Steppingstone is a voluntary transitional living program for youth ages 15 to 21. The ultimate goal of the Steppingstone Program is to provide homeless and at-risk youth with the vital skills needed to live as independent, contributing members of society.
In 2012, Steppingstone served a total of 92 homeless and at-risk youth from the Kansas City area.
