Monster Truck On Public Display Thurs. Feb. 7th in Independence
Monster Jam Partners with Charlie’s House to Salute Area Firefighters and Keep KC Kids Safe
KANSAS CITY, MO - - Area families, monster truck fans and firefighters will have the opportunity to take photos and meet driver Jeremy Slifko while getting an up-close look at his truck, BACKDRAFT - a truck dedicated to firefighters - this Thursday, February 7th from 2-6 pm at a free fan and safety event at the Advance Auto Parts located at 2323 S. Sterling in Independence, MO.
BACKDRAFT, proudly competes with the number 343 in honor of the 343 firefighters who died on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center and bears the words, “In memory of 9/11” on its body. Standing 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, and weighing approximately 10,000 pounds, BACKDRAFT will be on display in the store parking lot during the event.
To honor area firefighters and assist them in educating the Greater Kansas City community on preventing injuries to children in and around the home, volunteers from Charlie’s House will be on hand to answer questions; display products such as gun-locks, safety gates, and outlet and door knob covers; and distribute home safety checklists and FREE furniture restraint straps. On November 1, 2007, Charlie Horn, a 2-year-old Kansas City boy, was killed as he attempted to climb a 30? dresser in his home. Charlie’s House is dedicated to keeping the community informed and engaged when it comes to preventing injuries to children in and around the home.
"The men and women who serve our communities as firefighters are often the first responders on the scene not only to automobile accidents and fires, but also to tragic in-home accidents involving children," Jenny Horn, Charlie's mother and Charlie's House board member, said. "This is a terrific opportunity for our volunteers to support local firefighters by helping educate the community about how to keep children safe at home."
Monster Jam and Advance Auto Parts salute these two groups in their efforts to promote safety.
