'Connectivity' to premiere at Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts
Missouri Contemporary Ballet (MCB) is proud to present ‘Connectivity,’ an artistic collaboration with Island Moving Company (IMC), a contemporary ballet company from Newport, RI. This production will be at Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts on March 8th at 8:00pm and March 9th at 2:00pm and 8:00pm.
MCB first worked with IMC in July 2012 when they traveled to Newport, RI to be the Resident Company in IMC’s Great Friends Dance Festival. To further the relationship, IMC is traveling to Missouri to perform with MCB.
‘Connectivity’ will feature three works from MCB’s repertoire and one new work. Twisted, which premiered in MCB’s first season in 2006, has always been a fan favorite. Choreographed by Lisa Morovitz-Geger and Artistic/Executive Director Karen Mareck Grundy, this piece is based on the classic game ‘Twister.’ Falling Apart by Resident Choreographer Shannon Lee West was choreographed in 2009. This all-women piece explores the deterioration of a dancer, both physically and mentally.
Tango de Muetre was choreographed by Tiger Martina in 2006. This work follows two people who die tragic deaths and meet in the afterlife. Company member Fernando Rodriguez will be premiering his new work, Catch’Up. Rodriguez explores the idea of someone who tries constantly to fit in, but ends up missing out on life, only to catch the falling pieces of the lives of others.
Island Moving Company will be bringing four works, performing two in each show. Struggle for Comfort was choreographed by Miki Ohlsen in 2011. Risk of Exposure, which premiered in 2012 by Danielle Genest, evokes the human vulnerability inherent in our exposure to one another and the elements. Pheromone, choreographed by IMC company member Shane Farrell originally premiered at the Great Friends Dance Festival 2012. This work explores the stimulating sensuality and the natural uninhibited interactions among human beings. A new work by Mark Harootian, a member of Festival Ballet Providence, will also premiere in this production.
Tickets are $19-$29 for adults, $14 for students, and $12 for children 12 and under. The Friday, March 8th performance will be half off all student tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts box office, 573-882-3781, or at http://www.concertseries.org/event/mcb-and-island-moving-co-spring-ballet/.
