Back by “Popular” demand, the season begins with WICKED, October 9-27, 2013. Variety calls WICKED “a cultural phenomenon.” When WICKED last played Kansas City in 2009, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards®, WICKED is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times). Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for “the most complete - and completely satisfying - new musical in a long time” (USA Today).

The New Year brings the new musical, SISTER ACT, to the Music Hall January 21-26, 2014. SISTER ACT is Broadway’s feel-amazing musical comedy smash hit! The New York Post calls it “RIDICULOUSLY FUN,” and audiences are jumping to their feet in total agreement. Featuring original music by eight-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE LITTLE MERMAID, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS), SISTER ACT tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime, and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look—a convent. Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

The third offering at the Music Hall is the theatrical event , WAR HORSE, April 1-6, 2014. A heart-warming tale of loyalty and friendship, WAR HORSE is the winner of FIVE 2011 Tony Awards®. As World War One begins, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France. He’s soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man’s land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home. This powerfully moving and imaginative drama, filled with stirring music and songs, is a show of phenomenal inventiveness that is currently playing to packed houses in London and around the world. The centerpieces of WAR HORSE are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men to ride.

Coming to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in 2013-14 is a show straight from Broadway – BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL, February 11-16, 2014. BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL, based upon the popular movie of the same name, tells the story of the challenges and unexpected bonds formed through the thrill of extreme competition. From the Tony Award-winning creative minds of Lin-Manuel Miranda (IN THE HEIGHTS), Tom Kitt (NEXT TO NORMAL) and Jeff Whitty (AVENUE Q), BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL showcases a vibrant score and endearing story. With a colorful crew of characters, an exciting fresh sound and explosive dance with aerial stunts, this hilariously universal story is sure to be everything you hoped for and nothing like you expected. The New York Times calls it, “Impossible to resist!”

The 2013-2014 Kansas City Broadway Series concludes with the critically acclaimed RAT PACK SHOW, May 27-June 1, 2014. Celebrate the Golden Age of Las Vegas with a cabaret-style evening “starring” Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop and Sammy Davis Jr. This lauded theatrical production includes great arrangements of the classic songs everyone knows and loves, including “That’s Amore,” “For Once in My Life,” “Luck Be a Lady” and “Mack the Knife.”

Season purchasers may also add tickets to two special engagement performances offered in conjunction with the series: Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will take the stage at the Music Hall December 10-15, 2013, and the new musical, AMERICAN IDIOT, which features the music of the band Green Day will be at the Kauffman in January of 2014.
