Jaydoc Free Clinic to Host Eighth Annual JayRock Benefit Concert

Quiet Corral, Cowboy Indian Bear To Play At The Uptown Theater

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- JayDoc Free Clinic, a local student-run free health clinic, will host the eighth annual JayRock benefit concert at 8 p.m. Feb. 15, 2013, at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Mo. Headlined this year by Quiet Corral, a popular folk inspired rock band, JayRock8 will also feature Lawrence-based band Cowboy Indian Bear.

JayRock8 is one of two annual fundraising events to help support JayDoc Free Clinic in its mission to serve the underprivileged in Kansas City. It will be held at The Uptown, located at 3700 Broadway, Suite 300, in Kansas City, Mo. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for VIP and 7 p.m. for general admission with the concert beginning at 8 p.m.

Tickets are on sale for $40 for VIP, $20 for general admission, as well as VIP tables for interested sponsors. Student discounts are also available for those attending school at the University of Kansas Medical Center. General admission tickets are $15 for students, while VIP tickets are $35. The student discount is valid until Feb. 1.

A general admission ticket gets an individual into the main concert space, while a VIP ticket allows one access to the main concert space and the VIP area, which includes catered Oklahoma Joe’s Barbecue, an open bar and a private eating/reception area. In years past, the concert has seen attendance upwards of 450 people, and tickets can be purchased via the JayRock website at http://jayrock.jaydocfreeclinic.org/ or by Ticketmaster at http://www.ticketmaster.com.

As one of the nation’s only student run free health clinics, JayDoc Free Clinic (JayDoc) serves the uninsured and underinsured populations of Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo. JayDoc does not screen patients for insurance status or income. Patients are primarily referred to the clinic by other local safety net clinics, the clinic website, and word of mouth.

Run exclusively by students of the University of Kansas Medical Center, JayDoc serves over 2000 patients a year at an average cost of $60 per patient. Estimates suggest that JayDoc saved the health care system more than $1.67 million in 2009 alone by providing efficient urgent and preventive care services to patients in need for free. Since its inception in 2003, JayDoc Free Clinic has served during evening operating hours on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
