Truman High School alumni raising money for homeless students


On January 12, 2013, the Truman High School Alumni of The Independence, Missouri School District (ISD) Alumni Association will conduct a day of fund raising for the ISD Homeless Students! There will be two events. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 am until 11:00 am. Menu is scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy and coffee or juice. Adults: $6 and Children under 10: $3 at the door.

For the 7:00 pm Gospel Variety Dinner Show there are two options, 1.) For those who want to enjoy dinner before the show, the dinner will consist of chili or vegetable soup, salad, iced tea and desert. Dinner will be served from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. and, 2.) There is a ticket option for those who just wish to attend the show only.

Donations for homeless students will be collected at both events. All monetary proceeds go to the ISD Foundation. Clothing Donations go to Tabitha's Closet for direct distribution to ISD Homeless Students. And, collected necessities (Toilet paper, shaving items, hand soap, laundry soap, feminine hygiene items, diapers, etc.) go to the ISD Family Services Division.

Pastor Bill Olinger from the Open Arms Church will be the MC. Pastor Olinger's wife, Truman graduate Debbie Olinger is managing this Gospel Variety Show.

The first half of the Gospel Variety Show will open with "Consider the Lillies" sung by Paula Stuart, wife of Truman H.S. Graduate Jeff Stuart. Paula currently sings as part of the Praise Team at Harvest Baptist Church in Blue Springs.

Aaron Heilman will entertain us through intermission with uplifting songs. Raffle drawings will be done during the intermission.

Vanessa Green will open the second half of the show with a solo. Fayette Driskell will follow Vanessa with another solo. Then, Rise and Shine Ministries will complete the two-hour Gospel Variety Show with their trio: one on keyboard, one on drums and one on guitar.
