Planet Aid helps local community charities

NORTH KANSAS CITY, MO. – Planet Aid collected more than 1 million pounds of clothes and shoes from within the Kansas City, Mo,. city limits; clothes that might have ended up in area landfills. Throughout the year, coats and blankets are separated and are stored at the North Kansas City facility until winter comes. Planet Aid gave these coats and blankets to organizations that help those in need within the areas around us. In 2012, Planet Aid donated more than 20,000 pounds of coats and blankets back to the communities. In Kansas City, Mo., Planet Aid donated 10,600 pounds of coats and blankets to charities including Care of Poor People (COPP); Uplift, Inc.; Spofford House; and Hope Faith Ministries.

Planet Aid also encourages business owners who host bins to designate a local charity to receive some funding from donations made. This year Planet Aid gave more than $4,400 to charities in the Kansas City metro area and beyond based on the pounds received through its collection bins. Of that, $3,862.05 went to COPP and to the Emilie Rosebud Diabetes Foundation in Kansas City. It also gave 824 pounds of food to Harvesters and countless baby supplies, hygiene products, and toys to the New House shelter for abused women.

The mission of Planet Aid is to support people and communities in the poorest regions of the world through projects addressing health, education, food production, and income generation. Planet Aid also has an environmental impact by keeping discarded textiles out of the waste stream (more information can be found at Planet Aid is enthusiastic to help out individuals in need in its communities as it continues its commitment to helping poor and disadvantaged citizens around the world improve their lives and the lives of future generations.

Planet Aid is a 501(c)3 organization based in Holliston, Mass., that uses free-standing donation bins for individuals to donate their used clothes and shoes. It uses those clothes to fund international and sustainable programs that help improve people’s lives globally.
