Kansas City Subway restaurants raises $30K for diabetes association

KANSAS CITY SUBWAY® RESTAURANTS RAISE THOUSANDS FOR AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION

Local Subway® restaurant patrons donate money for diabetes research.

Kansas City, KS, December 12, 2012 –Kansas City SUBWAY® restaurants have raised $30,610.59 during their Stop Diabetes Pin-Up Campaign. The money will be donated to the Kansas City chapter of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The campaign, which began October 1, 2012, asked customers to donate the loose change or round up their total to the next dollar amount when using a card to pay with to the campaign. Customers had the option to sign their name on a pin-up card that was displayed in the restaurant.

“We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with ADA on this campaign. Every year we are amazed at how fast the change from our customers orders add up,” says John Geither, Board Chair for Kansas City SUBWAY® restaurants. “Our community really stepped up to the challenge this year with a 22% increase of donations over 2011. We are very thankful for the patrons’ donations!”

A $30,610.59 check will be presented to the ADA on June 8th, 2013 at ADA’s Driven To A Cure Gala. The media is invited to attend the check presentation.

Having their support in the Kansas City community will help bring much needed awareness to our cause and provide funding to local programs.”

Kansas City SUBWAY® restaurants released a Diabetes Friendlier Menu on December 28, 2009. The menu ensures a variety of options for those customers with diabetes.

Today, there are nearly 26 million Americans – including 320,000 in the Kansas City metro-area who have diabetes. While an estimated 18.8 million have been diagnosed, unfortunately, 7 million people are unaware that they have the disease.

Sandwiches are served on Italian, wheat and a variety of seasoned breads that are baked fresh daily in each restaurant. Hot toasted and cold subs are available with an assortment of meats, cheeses, vegetables and condiments, all added per customer request.
