Historic Kansas City community service organization earns coveted accreditation

Mattie Rhodes Center, a Kansas City philanthropic staple for 118 years, has earned national recognition through an accreditation by the Council on Accreditation, an organization which partners with human service organizations worldwide to improve service delivery outcomes by developing, applying, and promoting accreditation standards. Mattie Rhodes Center is honored to join the organizations who have earned this elite accreditation.

“Mattie Rhodes Center has endured as an organization that can validate immense impact on the lives of those we serve,” said John Fierro, Mattie Rhodes Center President/CEO. “This award recognizes the day-to-day dedication of our staff and volunteers to be an organization where the direct beneficiaries are the individuals helped by the services our organization provides. We are proud to be a part of Kansas City history and to have impacted the community so greatly.”

Mattie Rhodes Center has established a longstanding tradition of enriching the Kansas City community since 1894 and continues to evolve to accommodate the needs of the community. Beginning as a group of young women working for the less fortunate, to its early beginnings providing childcare for working mothers, to providing shelter and basic necessities during the Great Depression, to offering mental health and social services in the 1950s, to offering bilingual services in the 1980s, and now to offering enrichment through cultural educational activities and arts, Mattie Rhodes Center has risen to the challenge of its communities’ evolving needs at every turn. Today, its services fall under four main service divisions; Family Services and Support, Youth and Young Adult Services, Community Services, and Cultural Arts.

“Mattie Rhodes Center prides itself on its progressive commitment to understanding and identifying the ever-evolving needs of our community and on tailoring its services to meet the unique needs of underserved communities,” said Fierro.

Mattie Rhodes Center hosts several events throughout the year open to the public including a weekly farmers market in the fall, First Friday gallery openings, and an annual Día de los Muertos celebration. Throughout the month of December Mattie Rhodes Art Gallery will have on display two exhibits, "The Art Of Giving" and "La Reina: Small Apparitions". The gallery is located at 919 W. 17th Street in Kansas City, Missouri.

Founded in 1894, Mattie Rhodes Center enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities in a respectful, multicultural environment. It envisions a community where all people are healthy, safe, and have the resources to thrive. For more information, please visit www.mattierhodes.org.
