Volunteer “Party” makes Christmas merry for many

A Christmas “Packing Party” at Metro Lutheran Ministry was both a celebration and a way to help the homeless and needy of metropolitan Kansas City. Held Dec. 15 at MLM’s main location, 3031 Holmes, the packing party drew nearly 40 volunteers to package food and other supplies that will be distributed for Christmas. Held for other holidays from Easter to Thanksgiving, Packing Parties are also a way for large numbers of volunteers to help MLM’s effort serving thousands of area residents in need. The Christmas event was a good example. Volunteers included members of Girl Scout Troop 404 from Shawnee, members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Shawnee, and Bethany Lutheran Church, Overland Park. Individual volunteers came from Shawnee, Overland Park, DeSoto, Stillwell and even Louisburg. Metro Lutheran Ministry serves homeless youth and adults, senior citizens and families throughout the metropolitan area. For more information, call (816) 931-0027 or visit www.mlmkc.org.
