InterServ Pantry sees usage increase
St. Joseph, Mo. _ InterServ’s Calvin Center Food Pantry has seen a steady increase in usage throughout the Fall months, especially over the past two, setting a record of 657 food orders for 1,685 individuals in the month of November, surpassing the previous mark of 602 set in October. Since July 1, the pantry at the Calvin Center has fulfilled 2,887 food orders. “The number of families appealing for the basic need of food through our pantries is a direct reflection of the state of the economy,” said Dave Howery, Executive Director of InterServ, “Households continue to be overwhelmed by increased cost of essentials and it is some crisis around health, employment, housing that brings working families to our doorstep. With the continued support of the faith community, United Way, schools and businesses, we are working to counter the impact of poverty on families.” InterServ relies on many different funds and organizations to help keep the shelves stocked at the food pantry, including The Second Harvest Food Bank and food drives by private organizations and schools. More than 10 schools in the St. Joseph School District have performed food drives for InterServ, providing much needed items for the pantry shelves at the Calvin Center. Private businesses such as CBIZ and Kat & Company also contributed through food drives at their businesses. “CBIZ Insurance Services understands the importance of supporting our local communities and each year we conduct food drives at each location to support those in need,” said Heide Walker, Vice President of CBIZ Insurance Services, Inc., “The St. Joseph CBIZ location is supporting The Calvin Center Food Pantry this year. And, with the kind generosity of our employees, neighboring businesses and partner associations, the food and monetary donations will assist in giving others the nourishment they need and hope for a brighter future.” InterServ is grateful for the support of food drives and donations from schools and private organizations to help support InterServ’s mission of “Faithfully Serving People.” For more information on food drives for the pantry at the Calvin Center, please contact InterServ at (816) 238-4511, ext. 229.
