Westlake Ace Hardware Named Donor of the Month by Habitat for Humanity Kansas City ReStore

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Westlake Ace Hardware store chain was recently named Donor of the Month for December by Habitat for Humanity Kansas City ReStore. Westlake has been a cherished local partner to the Habitat KC ReStore for many years but in December 2012, Westlake was given this honor for its in-store promotion “Milwaukee Tool Trade-In Event”. Tools collected as part of the trade-in promotion will be donated to Habitat for Humanity KC ReStore for resale at their two Kansas City locations, 4701 Deramus Avenue and 303 W. 79th St. Westlake’s Milwaukee Tool Trade-In Event (featuring the M12 RedLithium Advantage cordless power tools) lets customers trade in any used 9.6-volt or greater cordless or corded power tool for a $25 discount on one of four new M12 tools. Not only will Habitat Kansas City ReStore benefit from the actual donation of tools but the used tools will find their way into the hands of new owners instead of landfills. “This type of program thrills us” said Carrie Wilson, Director of Marketing for Habitat for Humanity Kansas City and Habitat for Humanity Kansas City ReStore. “Not only does the donation benefit Habitat for Humanity Kansas City financially but it allows both KC ReStores, its patrons and the power tool donors to participate in the cycle of “reusing” the tools instead of trashing them. Thank you Westlake for your part in making this happen.”

Over the years, Habitat for Humanity Kansas City ReStore has worked with many local businesses that have chosen to donate overstocks, discontinued, deconstructed and used items they no longer plan to sell or use in their business but realize still have a benefit to people in the marketplace. To acknowledge these organizations for their generous donations and support, Habitat for Humanity ReStore Kansas City established the Donor of the Month program. “We are honored to be recognized by Habitat for Humanity Kansas City ReStore. Westlake is a proud member of the greater Kansas City business community, so when the opportunity availed itself to help out such a worthy and well-respected organization as Habitat, we were anxious to pursue it,” said Jonathan Swiskow, vice president of marketing for Westlake Ace Hardware. “The Milwaukee Tool Trade-in Event not only gives customers a chance to make the leap into a new tool technology at a great price, but it ultimately helps those in need. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Habitat for Humanity Kansas City ReStore was founded in June 2000. It accepts donations of new and used building materials and furniture in good structural, functional and cosmetic condition from individuals, contractors and retailers. The materials are then made available to the public in the stores at discounted prices. KC ReStore’s proceeds go to support Habitat for Humanity Kansas City and help further its mission to give low income families decent, affordable homes to own.

Habitat for Humanity changes lives for low-income families by providing homeownership opportunities most would not be able to obtain through traditional means.
