Della Lamb Operation Thanksgiving Begins Tomorrow at 9:00 AM

At 9:00-am and continuing until Noon tomorrow, 1,608 Families (& More – Still Taking Applications) Pre-Qualified Families will be picking-up A Frozen Turkey and Grocery-Sacks filled with everything needed to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving Holiday Feast during Della Lamb’s Operation Thanksgiving Program. The event takes place at Della Lamb Community Services Mabee Center Gym located at 406 Woodland Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri … north and east of Downtown KCMO.

In its first year of existence -1993 - Operation Thanksgiving provided holiday groceries to 250 needy families. Dramatic increases in numbers as well as increases in the costs of groceries over the past years have stretched Della's resources incredibly thin.

“Operation Thanksgiving is unique in its service,” says Judy Akers, Executive Vice President of Della Lamb Community Services, “because it provides families with needed grocery-items, enabling them to celebrate the holiday in their own homes, creating their own family traditions."

In addition to a 10-14-lb. frozen turkey, each family will receive: stuffing mix, turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, holiday pie-makings, eggs, margarine, potatoes, vegetables, chocolate cake mix, chocolate frosting mix, and more, with turkey preparation instructions and recipes for leftovers.

Also included in each bag will be a Note of Prayer and Best Wishes to the family to let them know that these gifts of groceries have been provided through the love and concern of others who are praying for them and hoping that their holidays are filled with wonderful memories. A $35 donation covers the cost for each family to be provided a frozen turkey and a filled-sack of holiday groceries.

For more information, contact Judy McGonigle Akers, (816) 842-8040 or send an e-mail message to jakers@dellalamb.org. Contributions can be sent on-line to www.dellalamb.org or be mailed to Della Lamb Community Services “Operation Thanksgiving” 500 Woodland Ave., KCMO 64106.
