The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) Announces 2012-2013 Board of Directors

Kansas City, MO (Nov. 20, 2012) - The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) is pleased to announce the members of its 2012-13 Board of Directors. Elections were held at the AAVSB Annual Meeting and Conference in Seattle on Sept.15, 2012. Anne Duffy moved from her position as President-Elect into the President position and will serve a one-year term in this role.

Ms. Duffy is the first Registered Veterinary Technician to hold the position of President. She was first elected to the AAVSB Board as a Director in 2008. Prior to serving on the Board, Duffy was an item writer for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE), which is owned and administered by the AAVSB.

Ms. Duffy’s career spans over 30 years of private practice, teaching, and volunteer experience. She created the Veterinary Technology Program at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and served as its first director. She continues to teach veterinary technology and animal health at Kirkwood. In 2008, Duffy helped turn Kirkwood into an emergency animal shelter after severe flooding in the area left thousands of pets displaced. She has served as the Gubernatorial appointee to the Iowa Board of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, she co-wrote and administered Iowa’s State Examination for Veterinary Technicians.

“Anne Duffy’s long term commitment to the profession and to regulation is commendable. Anne is the first Veterinary Technician to serve as President of this organization, which is both historic and significant. The 2012-13 AAVSB Board of Directors is a highly competent, committed group, and I look forward to working with Ms. Duffy and the rest of the Board in the upcoming year,” said Robyn Kendrick, AAVSB Executive Director.

The current AAVSB Board of Directors consists of the following individuals:

Anne Duffy, RVT (Iowa), President Helen Tuzio, DVM (New York), Immediate Past President Beckey Malphus, DVM (Georgia) President-Elect John Lawrence, DVM (Minnesota) Treasurer Dan Danner, DVM (Oklahoma) Director Michael Gotchey, DVM (Colorado) Director Tom Kendall, DVM (California) Director Frank Walker, DVM (North Dakota) Director
