13 Year Old Washington, MO Angler Hits It Big In The Big Bass Bash
High Ridge, MO - November 14, 2012 - Jack Short, a 13 year old angler from Washington, MO, along with his father David Short, had a weekend at Lake of the Ozarks they will never forget. They entered the Big Bass Bash fishing tournament, which took place on October 5th & 6th, looking to cash in on some of the $200,000 in prize money.
What transpired throughout the weekend had the entire lake community buzzing, along with more than 2,200 anglers that had entered the Big Bass Bash.
Jack's father suggested he throw a big swimbait all weekend, 9 inches long to be exact, to hopefully entice that one big fish they were looking for. Jack knew he wouldn't get many strikes, but in the Big Bass Bash you're only looking for that one big bite.
Saturday around 1pm, father and son were fishing an area up in the Gravois Arm of the lake. Jack heaved his swimbait up in about 6 feet of water and started retrieving it down the side of a dock, when suddenly it stopped. The fight was on! Thirteen year old Jack Short wrestled the bass to the side of the boat where Dad netted it, then raced off to the scales to get her officially weighed in.
Jack's bass weighed in at 6.43 pounds, which at that time led the entire tournament. By the way, 1st place in the Fall Big Bass Bash is a whopping $60,000 cash prize.
Jack's fish ended up placing 2nd overall for the tournament, earning him a check for $21,500. Jack is the youngest top 3 winner to date in the 7 years the Big Bass Bash has been in business. "It just goes to show it only takes one cast to win big in this tournament, regardless of age," says Charlie Terrell, one of the Big Bass Bash directors.
The Big Bass Bash is for amateurs only. It's unique format allows the weekend angler a chance to win big money like the professionals. Unlike most fishing tournaments which have a team arrangement where prizes are based on total weight, our format is distinctive in that it only takes one fisherman just one big bass to win! Don't miss the 2013 Spring Big Bass Bash, scheduled for April 20th & 21st at Lake of the Ozarks.
