Navajo code talker Samuel Tom Holiday to speak in honor of veterans

The Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas and the Kickapoo American Legion Post #415 are sponsoring the very special appearance of World War II veteran and Navajo Code Talker Samuel Tom Holiday, Saturday November 17, 2012 at the Kickapoo Community Building. The distinguished Mr. Holiday served in the United States Marine Corp, 4th Marine Division, 25th Regiment, H&S Company from 1943 to 1945. Navajo speakers were recruited during World War II to use a coded form of the language for the transmission of secret tactical communications. This method greatly expedited the encryption of vital intelligence greatly aiding our troops.

This special event begins at noon, and is open free to the public. Join the Kickapoo community as we thank our veterans, celebrate our nation and honor our distinguished guest. A luncheon will be served, compliments of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas and the Kickapoo American Legion Post #415. The Kickapoo Community Building is located three miles from the intersection of HWY 75 and HWY 20. Turn south onto Falcon Road, and go 1/4-miles south. The Community Center building is on the west side. ###
