Unity Church of Overland Park receives the 2012 Tables of Faiths award for exceptional leadership and support for interfaith education and other congregations
November 6, 2012 – Overland Park, KS – Unity Church of Overland Park will receive this year’s Table of Faiths Award presented by the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council at the Table of Faiths luncheon on Thursday, November 8 at the Overland Park Marriott. Unity Church of Overland Park is honored to be recognized for our contribution and support of interfaith building within our community as demonstrated by: •offering Sunday service lessons on different faiths to the congregation •teaching interfaith holidays to our children during Sunday school classes •celebrating “A Season for Nonviolence” every year •senior minister, Rev. Patricia Bass, serving as honorary co-chair of the table of faiths luncheon in 2010 •financially supporting a number of faith traditions including Buddhism, Native American Spirituality, Catholicism and Protestant Christian •financially supporting interfaith organizations like CRES & KC Interfaith Council •hosting “table talk” at the church (interfaith discussion groups) for congregants and the community •sponsoring instructors and leaders from our spiritual community to teach interfaith classes to our adults and children such as Summer interfaith series for our children and their families, and multiple interfaith class series Unity Church of Overland Park's commitment to building interfaith understanding is so great that it sent its senior minister Reverend Patricia Bass to attend the 2009 Parliament of the World's Religions in Melbourne Australia in 2009 along with over 5,000 others from all over the world. The theme of this year's luncheon is “Spirituality and the Environment: Caring for the Earth, Our Legacy.” UCOP is very environmentally sensitive and is a Certified Earthcare Congregation. Our very active Green Team will be present to share ways which spiritual communities can support and sustain our environment.
Unity Church of Overland Park (UCOP) is a positive, practical, progressive approach to Christianity based on the teachings of Jesus and the power of prayer. UCOP honors the universal truths in all religions and respects each individual’s right to choose a spiritual path. Sunday celebration services and children’s services are offered 9 & 11 a.m. and classes, workshops and events are offered 7-days a week.
