Humana names regional medical officer for Central Region
Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), a leading health benefits company, has named Elizabeth Sorrells Peterson, M.D., FAAP as its regional medical director for its Medicare division in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, which comprises the Central Region.
In her new regional role, Dr. Peterson is responsible for clinical policy and physician clinical review for Humana’s Medicare HMO and PPO health plans, Medicare prescription drug plans, Medicare supplement policies and private fee-for-service health plans offered to people eligible for Medicare in the four-state region.
“In her 27 years, Dr. Peterson has served as a pediatrician, medical director and senior officer at private practices, health plans and medical management companies, respectively,” said Randa Anderson-Stice, Regional President, Central Region – Senior Products for Humana. “We are excited to bring her leadership and nearly three decades of experience to Humana and our Medicare members.”
Dr. Peterson currently serves as chairperson for the Missouri HealthNet Managed Care Quality Assessment and Improvement Advisory Group. The group is a joint meeting of the Medicaid Managed Care Health Plans and the State Medicaid Managed Care leadership.
Dr. Peterson received a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Humana offers a broad portfolio of Medicare plans in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, including HMO, PPO and private fee-for-service health plans, as well as, Medicare prescription drug plans and Medicare supplement policies. Annual enrollment for 2013 Medicare plans runs from Oct. 15, 2012 – Dec. 7, 2012.
