Nearly 200 local veterans will be in attendance and honored as USO guests. The event will also pay tribute to the 1940s, including the formation of the USO by President Franklin D. The event will run from 6 to 11 p.m. in Hangar 9 with the program beginning at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the USO and National Airline History Museum.
Guests will be encouraged to wear 1940s era clothing and military dress and treated to big band music and swing dancing from the Dave Stevens Band and the Kansas City Bettys, a USO-inspired group. In addition to vintage airplanes and cars on display, tours of the “Connie,” a restored Lockheed Constellation will be offered. Guests may also bid on silent auction items including a model of the “Connie” signed by actor and aviation enthusiast John Travolta.
