United Way supporters shared their stories at the Celebration lunch yesterday as campaign chairs, Dr. Jill Shackelford and Jeff Manning, celebrated the campaign’s success of raising slightly more than $2 million to date.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 19, 2009) –– Looking to wow friends and family with unique gifts? What could be more unique than an original work of art created by an emerging young artist? Visit the Kansas City Art Institute’s end-of-semester exhibition and sale Dec. 4-6 where a multitude of works in a wide range of media can be purchased. The exhibition and sale will feature two- and three-dimensional work by students in the departments of ceramics, digital filmmaking, fiber, graphic design, interdisciplinary arts, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Pieces will be displayed in the various studio buildings on campus. Work can be purchased beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, but in some cases it will not be permitted to remove the purchased work from the exhibition until Sunday.

The MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center presents “The Body Departed” art exhibition opening October 21. The exhibition, which is open through November 21, focuses on this absence or removal of the human figure in contemporary art. The opening reception will be held October 23, 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Kansas City, MO (November 13, 2009) — At Friday evening’s ceremony for Kansas City AIA’s Design Excellence Awards, SFS Architecture was awarded the top honor, the Honor Award, for the Osage Prairie YMCA Pool Addition in Nevada, Missouri.

People of multiple religious faiths will gather Thursday, Nov. 19, to eat a potluck meal and discuss support of clean energy legislation.

Attendees are asked to bring a dish of food and come to the All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church to dine from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 4501 Walnut St. in Kansas City.
