It is no surprise; restrooms are a haven for many potentially dangerous bacterial microorganisms. Many types and classes of bacteria, including E. coli, C. difficile, enterococci and staphylococci can be found in any restroom and can cause a serious potentially life-threatening infection. These last two classes of bacteria account for the great majority of infections contacted by consumers and patients, which, even when treatable with antibiotics, can carry high mortality rates.

Raphael hotel named to National Register of Historic Places

The RaphaelThe Raphael“The Director of the National Park Service is pleased to send you the following announcements and actions...” heralded the welcome news to owners of The Raphael. The property is now for the first time officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building, constructed in the late 1920s as the Villa Serena luxury apartments, stands as a unique example of the majesic Italian Renaissance Revival style on the Plaza and a rare example citywide. The stye was chosen by architect Alonzo Gentry to complement the Mediterranean flavor of the neighboring Country Club Plaza shopping district. According to Mike Prekel, The Raphael’s general manager, the listing is an important step in preserving a significant piece of local architectural history far into the future. “The application process for listing is rigorous, particularly for properties undergoing such extensive renovation,” says Prekel. “The attention to detail and additional construction expense preserves The Raphael’s history and place in Kansas City. It further signifies the owner’s long-term vision for one of the city’s distinguished landmarks.”
