KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 19, 2009) –– Looking to wow friends and family with unique gifts? What could be more unique than an original work of art created by an emerging young artist? Visit the Kansas City Art Institute’s end-of-semester exhibition and sale Dec. 4-6 where a multitude of works in a wide range of media can be purchased. The exhibition and sale will feature two- and three-dimensional work by students in the departments of ceramics, digital filmmaking, fiber, graphic design, interdisciplinary arts, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Pieces will be displayed in the various studio buildings on campus. Work can be purchased beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, but in some cases it will not be permitted to remove the purchased work from the exhibition until Sunday.

TubaChristmas 2009 will be hosted by The Kansas City Symphony on Friday, December 4. This event will be one of 240 TubaChristmas concerts presented around the United States in tribute to the late artist/teacher William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. The TubaChristmas ensemble performs traditional Christmas carols and songs, many of which were arranged by noted American composer Alec Wilder, who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The memories of Bell and Wilder are celebrated in the annual performances of TubaChristmas groups around the nation.

“Delicate Manufacturing” to exhibit at the Corridor Art Space

(KANSAS CITY) – The Kansas City Symphony marks the beginning of the holiday season with Handel’s Messiah on Thanksgiving weekend. The Kansas City Symphony and Chorus join with the Independence Messiah Choir for this mosaic of the scriptures, which remains Handel’s most famous work. With over 400 musicians on stage, it is one of the most triumphant choral pieces ever written. Messiah is best known for its familiar “Hallelujah” chorus.

Atchison, Kan., November 3rd, 2009-Atchison, KS native Angie Pickman will display her cut paper art creations, unveiling an exhibit at Crosstown Station on November 6th, 2009, in conjunction with Kansas City, Missouri's First Friday art and music celebration.

“A séance for piano and orchestra" -- ghosts of music's past weave through the three movement concerto

(Kansas City) - The Kansas City Symphony will present the world premiere of Lost Souls - A Piano Concerto by Israeli composer Avner Dorman on November 20-22. Lost Souls tell the haunting story of a séance summoning ghosts of concertos past, ending in an exorcism. Praised by Gramophone Magazine as “a fresh, young voice, worth following,” Avner Dorman is a rising star composer whose orchestral works were recently performed by the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Call for Artists: SUPPORT AND CELEBRATE: The Art and Soul of the CommunityKaw Valley Arts and Humanities and the United Way are holding a public holiday art sale and reception on Friday, November 13 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Reardon Civic Center. This fundraising event will be a part of the KCK Downtown 2nd Friday Art Walk. Funds raised will benefit the United Way of Wyandotte County. We expect good attendance by people/UW donors with fine arts purchasing in mind. The Kansas State University Painting Society is composed of undergraduate students interested in painting. While the Painting Society is mainly made up of painting majors, it is open to all majors at Kansas State University. The Painting Society is an active group, involved in many campus projects, fundraisers, and community service projects each year. They also participate in exhibitions across the state.

10/7/09 - The works of 40 Johnson County artists will be showcased during the fifth-annual Johnson County Art Fest exhibit opening Sunday, Nov. 1. The juried exhibition runs through Nov. 22 at the Ernie Miller Nature Center located at 909 N. Kansas 7 Highway, Olathe.

Olathe, KS – September 10, 2009 – On September 19 and 20 over 85 of the best local, national and international artists will transform the beautiful grounds on the banks of Shadow Lake in Cedar Creek into a unique, “city of artists,” outdoor fine art gallery that is the award-winning Hidden Glen Arts Festival. Featuring one-of-a-kind, limited edition works in paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media, and photography.

Louis and Company will be sponsoring another free kids dance team for kids ages 8-16. Auditions will be on Friday, September 11 at 5pm and Saturday, September 12 at 3pm. The nine week class will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 beginning September 14.

UNFRAMED: New Works on paper and canvas by T.Schroeder

Officially opening September 5, 2009 and running through September 30, 2009 at The Brick (1727 McGee, kcmo) fine art illustrator Tyson Schroeder will be displaying eighteen new oil and watercolor paintings of his Cannibalistic Expressionism. All 18 pieces are unframed and highlight their finished state. This raw, unconventional displaying emphasizes the difficulty in pinning down Schroeder’s work to one distinct style or school of art, for the works range from touches of Abstraction to Figurative Expressionism and a bit of Surrealism. All of which have contributed to Schroeder becoming one of the top underground illustrators in Kansas City.
