Called “a formidable talent” by On-The-Town Magazine, Stryke shows off his jazz chops while still delivering his characteristically nostalgic and melodic treatment of Christmas favorites. KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Every campaign has a story and United Way of Wyandotte County’s campaign was no different this year. United Way supporters shared their stories at the Celebration lunch yesterday as campaign chairs, Dr. Jill Shackelford and Jeff Manning, celebrated the campaign’s success of raising slightly more than $2 million to date.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 19, 2009) –– Looking to wow friends and family with unique gifts? What could be more unique than an original work of art created by an emerging young artist? Visit the Kansas City Art Institute’s end-of-semester exhibition and sale Dec. 4-6 where a multitude of works in a wide range of media can be purchased. The exhibition and sale will feature two- and three-dimensional work by students in the departments of ceramics, digital filmmaking, fiber, graphic design, interdisciplinary arts, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Pieces will be displayed in the various studio buildings on campus. Work can be purchased beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, but in some cases it will not be permitted to remove the purchased work from the exhibition until Sunday.

This fall, Metropolitan Community College-Longview begins a series of events to celebrate 40 proud years. Since 1969, the year of the moon landing, MCC-Longview has been preparing students and serving the community. In 2009, the college celebrates the milestone with community events running through May of 2010.

KANSAS CITY WILDLANDS SPONSORS 8th ANNUAL NATIVE CHRISTMAS TREE EVENT

LEES SUMMIT, MISSOURI Kansas City WildLands (KCWL) is inviting the public to saw down a native Eastern Red Cedar Tree for Christmas during a conservation workday at Blue Springs Lake in Fleming Park, between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 5. Pre-cut trees will be available for those who want them, and volunteers will be on site to help visitors cut and load trees. Hot cider and a warm fire at the site will help visitors make a fun day of it. A donation of $10 per tree is suggested; proceeds will benefit future conservation efforts around the metro area.

11/18/09 - Visit the annual celebration of "Eagle Days" at the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge through a birdwatching trip being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

Always a participant favorite, this trip affords a close-up view of our national bird. The trip will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, and will include a special presentation including a close-up look at a mature Bald Eagle and tour of the refuge and a chance to look through spotting scopes to view this amazing bird. It is not unusual to observe 150 to 200 bald eagles on the refuge and surrounding area. Other wildlife such as ducks, geese, and deer have also been observed in past years. Midwest Holiday Debut of International Lighting Display and Five Santa Experiences; Black Friday Midnight Madness Follows

TubaChristmas 2009 will be hosted by The Kansas City Symphony on Friday, December 4. This event will be one of 240 TubaChristmas concerts presented around the United States in tribute to the late artist/teacher William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. The TubaChristmas ensemble performs traditional Christmas carols and songs, many of which were arranged by noted American composer Alec Wilder, who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The memories of Bell and Wilder are celebrated in the annual performances of TubaChristmas groups around the nation.
