Acclaimed pianist Sam Stryke (aka Struyk) comes to The University of Kansas Edwards Campus for a special Christmas Jazz Concert on December 8 at 7 pm. Called “a formidable talent” by On-The-Town Magazine, Stryke shows off his jazz chops while still delivering his characteristically nostalgic and melodic treatment of Christmas favorites. Holiday shoppers invited to art institute exhibition, sale

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Nov. 19, 2009) –– Looking to wow friends and family with unique gifts? What could be more unique than an original work of art created by an emerging young artist? Visit the Kansas City Art Institute’s end-of-semester exhibition and sale Dec. 4-6 where a multitude of works in a wide range of media can be purchased. The exhibition and sale will feature two- and three-dimensional work by students in the departments of ceramics, digital filmmaking, fiber, graphic design, interdisciplinary arts, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. Pieces will be displayed in the various studio buildings on campus. Work can be purchased beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, but in some cases it will not be permitted to remove the purchased work from the exhibition until Sunday.

Squaw Creek Eagle Days trip offered on Dec. 5

11/18/09 - Visit the annual celebration of "Eagle Days" at the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge through a birdwatching trip being offered by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District.

Always a participant favorite, this trip affords a close-up view of our national bird. The trip will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, and will include a special presentation including a close-up look at a mature Bald Eagle and tour of the refuge and a chance to look through spotting scopes to view this amazing bird. Kansas City Symphony Hosts TubaChristmas 2009 on Friday, December 4

TubaChristmas 2009 will be hosted by The Kansas City Symphony on Friday, December 4. This event will be one of 240 TubaChristmas concerts presented around the United States in tribute to the late artist/teacher William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. The TubaChristmas ensemble performs traditional Christmas carols and songs, many of which were arranged by noted American composer Alec Wilder, who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980.
