Kansas City Symphony Hosts TubaChristmas 2009 on Friday, December 4
TubaChristmas 2009 will be hosted by The Kansas City Symphony on Friday, December 4. This event will be one of 240 TubaChristmas concerts presented around the United States in tribute to the late artist/teacher William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. The TubaChristmas ensemble performs traditional Christmas carols and songs, many of which were arranged by noted American composer Alec Wilder, who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The memories of Bell and Wilder are celebrated in the annual performances of TubaChristmas groups around the nation.

Kansas City Symphony Begins Holiday Season with Handel's Messiah
(KANSAS CITY) – The Kansas City Symphony marks the beginning of the holiday season with Handel’s Messiah on Thanksgiving weekend. The Kansas City Symphony and Chorus join with the Independence Messiah Choir for this mosaic of the scriptures, which remains Handel’s most famous work. With over 400 musicians on stage, it is one of the most triumphant choral pieces ever written. Messiah is best known for its familiar “Hallelujah” chorus.

Lost Souls tell the haunting story of a séance summoning ghosts of concertos past, ending in an exorcism. Praised by Gramophone Magazine as “a fresh, young voice, worth following,” Avner Dorman is a rising star composer whose orchestral works were recently performed by the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Panera Bread Donates $18,000 to Young Survival Coalition of Kansas City
Kansas City — Panera Bread, with 22 Kansas City area locations, 3 in Wichita and additional cafes in St. Joseph, Lawrence, Manhattan and Topeka is proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness during the month of October. Panera Bread’s Swing for Life 2009 Golf Tournament was held at Prairie Highlands on October 12th and nearly 100 participants braved the cold to support the cause. Through sponsorships, entry fees, mulligan sales, raffle tickets and in-kind donations the event was proud to donate $13,039.04 to Young Survival Coalition of Kansas City, a breast cancer awareness organization.

Mirabile's New Cookbook
(Overland Park, KS - September 8, 2009) - Kansas City’s renowned chef, Jasper Mirabile, Jr., welcomes Marillac supporters to his popular family-run restaurant on October 10, 2009 for an exclusive Enchanted Evening Pre-Party. For $20, guests will take part in a cooking class with Mirabile and enjoy samples of his rich Italian fare. They’ll also have the opportunity to purchase autographed copies of his just-released cookbook, Jasper’s Kitchen Cookbook: Italian Recipes and Memories from Kansas City’s Legendary Restaurant, which features more than 100 classic and contemporary Italian recipes. Harry Hewlett will play his original music at SPIN! Hewlett grew up on a cotton farm in west Texas and now lives in the Kansas City area, where he writes, sings, and plays the guitar and harmonica.
