TubaChristmas 2009 will be hosted by The Kansas City Symphony on Friday, December 4. This event will be one of 240 TubaChristmas concerts presented around the United States in tribute to the late artist/teacher William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. The TubaChristmas ensemble performs traditional Christmas carols and songs, many of which were arranged by noted American composer Alec Wilder, who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The memories of Bell and Wilder are celebrated in the annual performances of TubaChristmas groups around the nation.

Joseph Orr Paintings in Museum Exhibit
Fifty paintings by national
Joseph Orr sketching on location.ly known Missouri artist Joseph Orr will be the subject of “Annulment From The Crowd”, a solo exhibit of Orr’s work at the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery, 401 North First Street, Lindsborg, Kansas, opening November 8th and continuing through December 27th, 2009. The gallery is the repository for paintings by Birger Sandzen (1871-1954) who came to the US from Sweden to teach art at Bethany College, Lindsborg, KS, and became one of the most stylized and celebrated painters of the American landscape in the 20th century. The Sandzen Memorial invited Orr to exhibit his paintings made from sketches done on location two years ago so Joseph has chosen works painted during trips to the West, around the MidWest and South Eastern United States. The exhibit also includes works, large and small, from the Lake area near his studio in Osage Beach, his wife’s private collection and from private collections of his collectors.
