KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Every campaign has a story and United Way of Wyandotte County’s campaign was no different this year. United Way supporters shared their stories at the Celebration lunch yesterday as campaign chairs, Dr. Jill Shackelford and Jeff Manning, celebrated the campaign’s success of raising slightly more than $2 million to date.

MCC-Longview Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members will host the chapter’s annual Hunger4Change dinner at 5:30 p.m. on November 21 to benefit Harvesters Food Network of Kansas City and OxFam International. The dinner will be held in the MCC-Longview Business building, room 103.

Want to do your part to help support efforts to wipe out homelessness in Kansas City? Plan on attending the Homeless Services Coalition’s fourth annual fundraiser and awards ceremony from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 13th and Broadway.

TubaChristmas 2009 will be hosted by The Kansas City Symphony on Friday, December 4. This event will be one of 240 TubaChristmas concerts presented around the United States in tribute to the late artist/teacher William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. The TubaChristmas ensemble performs traditional Christmas carols and songs, many of which were arranged by noted American composer Alec Wilder, who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The memories of Bell and Wilder are celebrated in the annual performances of TubaChristmas groups around the nation.

On Sunday, December 13th, The Good Samaritan Project will present their 2nd annual Holiday Homes Tour in The Historic Northeast Neighborhood of Scarritt Renaissance. The tour features 5 historic mansions along Gladstone Blvd. decorated in Holiday splendor, hard hat tours of The Kansas City Museum, carriage rides, and strolling carolers, all followed by a concert by The KC Boys Choir and The KC Girls Choir at The Melrose United Methodist Church.

Special Recognition: Vivion Ebersole accepted accolades for her late husband Pastor David Ebersole at the Power of Each One Event Saturday. (KANSAS CITY) – The Kansas City Symphony marks the beginning of the holiday season with Handel’s Messiah on Thanksgiving weekend. The Kansas City Symphony and Chorus join with the Independence Messiah Choir for this mosaic of the scriptures, which remains Handel’s most famous work. With over 400 musicians on stage, it is one of the most triumphant choral pieces ever written. Messiah is best known for its familiar “Hallelujah” chorus.

Kansas City, Missouri, October 30, 2009 – Thanks to funds raised through a recent “Round-Up” program at the JCPenney in Lee’s Summit, local children in need will continue to have access to afterschool programming at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, the store’s JCPenney Afterschool Fund partner. From October 16th through the 26th, JCPenney customers were invited to “round-up” their JCPenney purchases to the nearest whole dollar and donate the difference to local afterschool programs that provide at-risk children access to life-enriching activities that inspire children to be smart, strong and socially responsible.
