Raytown’s image continues to get better as more people are making Raytown a better place in which to live, work and play by making improvements to their properties. With all the new construction that has been completed and the continued upkeep of our past image makers, the pride continues to grow. To recognize these efforts the Raytown Area Chamber of Commerce Community Initiatives Committee is pleased to have recognized the efforts of each of these property owners by having provided them with a Raytown Image Maker Certificate. In addition The Community Initiative Committee is proud to announce that the annual Raytown Image Maker Award winners for 2009 are:

KANSAS CITY METRO — The Associates, Bakers and Managers of Panera Bread with locations throughout Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, Manhattan, Lawrence and St. Joseph are proud to announce the successful delivery of over 2,500 items that included toys, art supplies and personal care items valued at over $13,000 to Children’s Mercy Hospital from Operation GIFT.

The United Nations has proclaimed the theme of “I AM” as the campaign slogan of World AIDS Day 2009, reminding us that access for all to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support is a fundamental human right. Since 1993, the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City has provided this access with local action and vision, spreading the message of prevention and assisting those affected with HIV/AIDS in Kansas City.

TubaChristmas 2009 will be hosted by The Kansas City Symphony on Friday, December 4. This event will be one of 240 TubaChristmas concerts presented around the United States in tribute to the late artist/teacher William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day 1902. The TubaChristmas ensemble performs traditional Christmas carols and songs, many of which were arranged by noted American composer Alec Wilder, who ironically died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The memories of Bell and Wilder are celebrated in the annual performances of TubaChristmas groups around the nation.

(KANSAS CITY) – The Kansas City Symphony marks the beginning of the holiday season with Handel’s Messiah on Thanksgiving weekend. The Kansas City Symphony and Chorus join with the Independence Messiah Choir for this mosaic of the scriptures, which remains Handel’s most famous work. With over 400 musicians on stage, it is one of the most triumphant choral pieces ever written. Messiah is best known for its familiar “Hallelujah” chorus.

Overland Park, KS - Jerry Cook, president of the Overland Park Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), was honored during the 2009 Kansas Tourism Conference for achieving his Kansas Destination Specialist (KDS) certification.

“A séance for piano and orchestra" -- ghosts of music's past weave through the three movement concerto

(Kansas City) - The Kansas City Symphony will present the world premiere of Lost Souls - A Piano Concerto by Israeli composer Avner Dorman on November 20-22. Lost Souls tell the haunting story of a séance summoning ghosts of concertos past, ending in an exorcism. Praised by Gramophone Magazine as “a fresh, young voice, worth following,” Avner Dorman is a rising star composer whose orchestral works were recently performed by the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Peter deSilva, UMB, Elected Chair of The Chamber

Peter deSilva, Peter deSilva, president and chief operating officer, UMB Financial Corp. and chairman and CEO of UMB Bank, n.a., has been elected Chairman of the Board of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. The vote came at Monday’s meeting of The Chamber Board. deSilva succeeds retiring Chair Anne St. Peter, Founder, Global Prairie. His one-year term begins November 1, 2009.

During the past 28 years, more than 185 outstanding Kansas Citians have been recognized for their volunteer efforts on behalf of non-profit organizations and individuals in our city. These individuals have had a significant impact in a variety of ways with their good works. That is why they were honored with the Kansas City Spirit Award.

Raytown Mayor David Bower announced that Mr. Kenneth Blom of the Stratford Development Corporation has been submitted for the 2009 Truman Heartland Community Foundation Raytown Citizen of the Year Award.
