Debut Poetry Collection from KC-Area Writer
swallow: Preu's debut releases today.FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kansas City, KS - November 17th, 2009
Award-winning author Jason Preu today releases his first book of poetry, swallow (36 pp., tpb, $9.19, pdf, $2.50), a collection of thirty-two poems that feature surreal humor and imaginative speculations. Preu won the Kansas City Screenwriters' Audience Prize award in 2003 for his comedy-horror script Night of the Mullets.
With swallow, Preu attempts to get at the heart of the common ground shared by angry animals, God, post-apocalyptic haiku, and penis-loving, hippie ninjas.
Rob Schamberger, author of Batesville, The Unbroken Circle, and the forthcoming The Promotion, says, "swallow is a well thought out yet playfully irreverent collection of poems that examines life from angles we have seen, yet never closely observed. Equally familiar and fresh, this group of spirited musings shines a disco-balled light on life, sex and death in a manner that will leave you genuinely smiling and feeling smarter for the experience."
Craig M. Workman, author of Walking to Elysium, says swallow's, "sense of humor[...]is rivaled only by its wisdom and its important lesson to readers that everything everywhere is a thing in this world worth seeing, worth enjoying, worth looking at again."
Jason Preu studied Language, Literature, and Writing at the University of Kansas. He is currently compiling a follow-up to swallow, designing several games (as well as figuring the logistics of a launching a related game publishing company), and working on a trilogy of horror-themed plays. Preu writes a personal blog at http://jasonpreu.wordpress.com.
